F.A.Q.
What does Royalty-Free mean?
When you buy a Sound Effects Library at SoundEffects.com you buy the rights to synchronize the sounds with your productions. While you own the physical CDs that make up the library and you are allowed to synchronize them for use in your productions - the sounds and their copyright will always belong to the copyright holder of the product.

What is Synchronization?
Synchronization is the term that describes the way in which our sound effects can be utilized in productions that you create. A sound can be synchronized with a visual presentation (the sound of a creaky door timed perfectly to be heard when a door opens), or with other audio material such as a voice over - as in the case of a radio commercial. A sound can be synchronized for use in many media: television, radio, film, multimedia and audio-visual presentations, Web sites, computer games and music.

What are Mechanical Rights?
The composer and publisher of a piece of music generally reserve the right to receive compensation any time their music is copied. Violation of copyright holders' Mechanical Rights was involved in the Napster lawsuits. The Sound Effects that you can buy at SoundEffects.com have Mechanical Rights and these are violated when unauthorized transfer or duplication of the sound effects or music is undertaken - for instance, in the case of unlicensed network installations.

I am making a video game for release in retail stores. Can I use your sound effects in it?
Yes you can. Synchronization of our sound effects in this manner is permitted under the terms and conditions.

Do I have to pay you more if I include your sound effects in a production that will be broadcast on radio or TV?
Our sound effects are sold as Royalty-Free products. This means that you do not need to pay any additional money to the publishers of the Sound Effects we sell if a production is going to be broadcast or performed publicly.

Can I use your sound effects in my computer game?
Yes you can, provided that the sounds are embedded in the code of your game and are not available for an end-user to access or download.

Royalty Free Music Products: All our Royalty Free Music products (like the Mix Music Library and the Mix Signature Collection), are sold on a royalty free buyout basis, and a lifetime synchronization license is included with your purchase. Mechanical Rights (the right to copy the music), are not included with your purchase of our Royalty Free music (except as specifically identified in the Sound Ideas End User License Agreement) - thus you are not authorized to copy our Royalty Free music - it must be synchronized within your productions. Contact us for more details.
Performing Rights for public broadcast and/or performance music use are not included in the purchase of royalty free music products. You should therefore report your music use to your local Performing Rights Society, so that Performing Rights revenue can be paid to the music's composer(s) and publisher(s). A blank Cue Sheet is available for your use on request.

Copyright Warning:
All of the audio demo presentations on this Web site are protected by worldwide copyright, and are provided for demonstration purposes only. No authorization is given or implied for anyone to copy or use these audio demo presentations, or any sounds or music contained therein, for any purpose except to audition the products.
